The Science of Semen

The success of hormonal male contraception is dependent upon its ability to decrease men's sperm counts. Consequently the methods used to determine these counts need to be particularly accurate and precise across all of our study sites. Consequently, the principal investigator has elected to use the WHO's Semen Analysis (5th edition). We wanted to give you a glimpse into some of the rigorous processes applied to our trial.

For example, did you know that you need to have a special slide with a grid in order to perform a sperm count? The grid is called a Neubauer haemocytometer.
